Discover the flavors of East Tennessee along the Rocky Top Wine Trail, a collection of five wine and cider destinations located throughout Pigeon Forge and Sevierville. Established in 2008, the Rocky Top Wine Trail is Tennessee’s first and most visited wine trail, bringing together locally crafted wines, hard ciders, and Southern hospitality in the heart of the Smoky Mountains.
The five stops along the trail are Mountain Valley Winery, Hillside Winery, Apple Barn Winery, Apple Barn Hard Cider Company, and Apple Barn Dessert Wine Shoppe. Together, they offer more than 70 unique, award-winning wines along with locally crafted hard ciders and plenty of distinctive flavors to discover.
Mountain Valley Winery in Pigeon Forge is one of Tennessee’s oldest wineries and specializes in award-winning sweet and fruit wines. Popular selections include watermelon, rhubarb and red velvet, along with a variety of traditional wine styles.
At Hillside Winery in Sevierville, guests can explore Italian-inspired and sparkling wines alongside sweet and fruit forward selections. Hillside works with local grape growers and produces wines ranging from Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese to popular selections such as Black and Blue and Muscadine Mist.
The Apple Barn Village is home to three additional stops on the trail. Apple Barn Winery uses locally grown apples to handcraft its distinctive apple based wines, while Apple Barn Hard Cider Company produces crisp hard ciders on-site. Just steps away, Apple Barn Dessert Wine Shoppe specializes in sweet dessert wines, including selections fortified with apple brandy.
Exploring the trail is easy with the Rocky Top Wine Trail Passport. Guests can begin at any of the five locations, pick up a passport, and collect a stamp at each stop. After visiting all five locations and completing the passport, participants receive a free gift. There’s no requirement to complete the trail in a single day, so visitors can explore at their own pace throughout their Smoky Mountain vacation or return to finish it on a future trip.
Guests age 21 and older can enjoy limited complimentary samples at participating locations, with additional tasting experiences available. No reservations are required for the self guided trail, making it easy to add one or several stops to a day of exploring Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.
For visitors who would rather leave the driving to someone else, the Rocky Top Wine Trail also offers guided VIP shuttle experiences. Current options include tours that visit multiple trail locations with a personal wine and cider guide, additional samples, and other special perks.
Whether you prefer sweet fruit wines, traditional varietals, sparkling wines, locally crafted hard cider, or indulgent dessert wines, the Rocky Top Wine Trail offers plenty of opportunities to discover a new favorite while experiencing Tennessee wine country in the Smoky Mountains.
