Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Pigeon Forge explores the history of American crime, law enforcement, crime prevention, forensic investigation, the penal system, and victims’ stories. The 25,000-square-foot, two-story museum features five galleries, hundreds of authentic artifacts, and more than 100 interactive displays.
Guests can examine evidence, learn how forensic science is used to solve crimes, participate in a police lineup, explore a jail cell and test their detective skills through hands-on activities. Notable artifacts include the white Ford Bronco from the O.J. Simpson chase and Ted Bundy’s Volkswagen Beetle.
Alcatraz East also offers several activities designed for younger visitors. Children can learn about pirates and Old West outlaws, explore the CSI Gallery, try computer interactives, crack a safe, meet McGruff the Crime Dog, and complete the Top Detective Challenge. Eye-level child stops throughout the museum address personal safety, cyberbullying, and proper internet etiquette. Although the museum welcomes all ages, some exhibits contain mature subject matter, and guests younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian age 21 or older.
The exterior of Alcatraz East blends architectural features of the Tennessee State Prison, which opened in 1898, with guard towers inspired by the Alcatraz lighthouse and modern prison watchtowers. Located at The Island at 2757 Parkway in Pigeon Forge, the museum offers an interactive way for families to explore the history of crime and crime-solving.
