Since 2013, The Original and First Alpine Coaster in the Smokies, with more than one mile of track, this popular Smoky Mountain attraction is officially promoted as the longest downhill ride in the United States.

The adventure begins with a scenic uphill climb before gravity takes over for an exciting journey back down the mountain. The complete circuit stretches more than a mile and takes approximately 7–8 minutes, combining mountain scenery with plenty of curves, turns, and downhill thrills.

One of the best parts of the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is that riders control their own experience. Each sled is equipped with hand brakes that allow you to control your speed, reaching a maximum of approximately 27 miles per hour. Sleds can accommodate one or two riders, making it possible for qualifying younger children to experience the coaster with an older companion. Passengers must be at least 3 years old and 38 inches tall and ride with a supervising companion who is at least 16 years old and meets the ride requirements. Guests must be at least 56 inches tall to ride alone.

The fun continues throughout the year. Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster can operate in sunshine, rain, and even snow, although operations may pause during thunderstorms, heavy rain, or other unsafe weather conditions. Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster’s Night Rides are a popular must-do after dark as it provides a different way to experience the course and its mountain setting.
